Day FIVE - 8 March 2013
Today is
Day5 of Wuhan trip. Lecture as usual and for lunch we went to a different
canteen. We were told that the noodles are the main food in Wuhan. We tried the
noodles and it tasted a bit of salty. We also brought bottled drinks.
The bottled
drinks are usually used in Wuhan and that it is not common anymore in
Singapore. The glass bottle is more common in the olden days in Singapore. Throughout
these five days, I found out the locals here does not care so much about
hygiene. They do not wear gloves while preparing food, the throw their rubbish
anytime anywhere they want even the rubbish bin is very near to them. This is
something that I am proud to be a Singaporean. In Singapore, everything we do
must be hygienic. Littering will lead to fines, every stall or restaurant will
be checked by the National Environment Agency (NEA) monthly to make sure that
the stalls is clean; every stall holders wear gloves to prepare food and all
the chefs must be neatly attired with the apron and chef hat that prevents hair
dropping into our food. Also, in China, the population is big that when locals
are crossing the road they just jaywalk and cross even car is coming as they
know the car will slow down for them. The car will also stop any space they
think is suitable for parking. However in Singapore, jaywalking also leads to
fines. We have to follow the traffic rules. The vehicles will also be fined if
they parked at the wrong place. The food in Wuhan is mostly oily and salty.
However in Singapore, the chefs are advised by the NEA to put lesser oil or use
healthier oil, put less salt or not at all and use brown rice rather than the
normal white rice so that it is healthier. It is a different and good
experience for us though! J
